This powerhouse set kicks off with La Grondeuse or ‘The Muttering Woman’, a Quebecois reel Ellie learned in the Montreal sessions. Tunes from three contemporary composers round out the bunch, starting with legendary Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland. Break Yer Bass Drone was written after Gordon Duncan took a spill leaving the stage in concert with the Tannahill Weavers. Gordon was considered by many to be the most influential musician in the Scottish folk music scene of his generation, with many of his tunes now considered standards. Ross Ainslie, a student of Gordon’s, is continuing the lineage of forward thinking Scottish music, as you can hear in The Dirty Bee.
